  • According to CAL Fire, since the beginning of 2020 there have been more than 8,700 wildfires that have burned over 4.1 million acres in California. This shattered the state’s previous 2018 record when 1.67 million acres burned. There have been 32 total fatalities statewide and over 9,200 structures have been destroyed so far this fire season. More than 4,400 firefighters are still working to contain 23 wildfires across the state.
  • As of Oct. 20th, CAL Fire officials announced the Glass Fire, which burned more than 67,000 acres across Napa, Lake, and Sonoma counties, has been 100% contained.
  • On Oct. 1st, fire officials announced the LNU, SCU, and CZU complexes were 100% contained, meaning that perimeters were fully established around all three major lightning complexes.
  • The LNU, SCU, and CZU complexes burned a total of 846,353 acres combined. 3,205 structures were destroyed in their wake.
  • According to CAL FIRE, five of the top 20 largest wildfires in California history have occurred in 2020. The SCU and LNU Complexes were ranked the 3rd and 4th largest wildfires in state history. The LNU Complex was ranked 10th most destructive, while the CZU Complex was ranked 11th.
  • Layers of smoke over much of California are filtering incoming energy from the sun, cooling the temperature and causing dark red skies in many areas. The smoke is being held far above its normal level and away from the air West Coast residents breathe by air patterns coming off of the Pacific Ocean.
  • The CZU Lightning Complex was made up of the 5-18, 5-15, 5-14, Warnella, and Waddel fires in San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties. It is 100% contained.
  • 86,509 acres have burned.
  • 414 structures are threatened.
  • 1,490 structures have been destroyed.
  • One civilian fatality and one injury reported.
  • The SCU Lightning Complex was made of three major fire zones, the Deer Zone, the Calaveras Zone, and the Canyon Zone. It burned on the eastern and southern edges of the Bay Area. It is 100% contained.
  • 396,624 acres have burned.
  • 0 structures are threatened.
  • 224 structures have been destroyed.
  • Four first responders and two civilians have been injured.
  • The LNU Lightning Complex Fire was made up of the Hennessey, Spanish, Morgan, Walbridge, and Meyers fires. It burned in Napa, Lake, Sonoma, Solano, and Yolo Counties. It is 100% contained.
  • 363,220 acres have burned.
  • 0 structures are threatened.
  • 1,491 structures have been destroyed.
  • Five civilians have died and four civilians have been injured.
  • The Glass Fire, Shady Fire, and Boysen Fire—merged together by fire officials and dubbed the "Glass Incident"—burned areas of Napa, Lake, and Sonoma counties. The fire is 100% contained.
  • 67,484 acres have burned.
  • 1,217 structures are threatened.
  • 1,555 structures have been destroyed.
  • 282 structures have been damaged.
  • The American Red Cross offers relief to those impacted by the fires. Check their website for more information.
  • Be ready for fire, severe weather, and other disasters.
  • Pack an emergency supply kit. See Cal Fire’s list of food, water, tools, medicine, and more to bring.

After 3 years of this BS we need to return to controlled burns. We never had such severity of wildfires during controlled burn times.

@dkrt What are you talking about, there are always thunderstorms in summer because heat durning a rainstorm is what causes thunderstorms to happen in the first place. Haven’t you realized these fires always happen late August early September?
